Oh, man, Mystery Spot this morning. The episode of my heart, along with AVSC. I think what I like best is how much Dean loves Sam in this one, how affectionately supportive he is, even though Sam seems to have lost his mind. ♥
So, Health Care Reform. I think I am mostly feeling relieved. I've watched with disbelief and despair and discouragement as all this came to be. How are people so stupid, I've asked myself again and again. At least the legislators have the excuse that they are in the insurance industry's pockets. The protesters are just plain dumb.
Anyhoo, \o/! It's certainly a watered-down version of what I would have liked to see, which is a public option. (See above for "in the insurance industry's pockets.") But something had to be done, not to mention the damage to Obama's presidency if he hadn't been able to accomplish this.
We are affluent, white, and upper middle class - "upper" by income, anyway, if not by mentality or upbringing, but we certainly have our health insurance woes. When Adam comes home from Korea, he'll once again be uncovered. When Ash had her migraine/anxiety attack in San Francisco, it took her/us three years to pay off the emergency room and ambulance. Larry and his partner are their own corporation, so the risk pool is minute. We pay over $2000 a month in premiums to an insurance company that didn't want to pay for my mammogram a couple of years ago, even though my mom died of breast cancer. Every time I have an MRI for a running injury, they try to get me to say it's work-related so workmen's comp can pay for it. (And with our premium, I'd say they owe me an MRI anytime I want one.) They just raised our premium by 18%, and they only pay for our prescriptions once we've reached our $5000 deductible.
It's raining today, but we had several days of sunshine, so I'm good. Also, I ran 5 miles yesterday. I've been gradually increasing the distance and speed, sometimes walking, sometimes running, doing all the PT exercises I can remember, using the bike and the elliptical, weight training, and yoga, and stretching. I occasionally feel a twinge in my leg, and I make sure to RICE every time I do something. Although Neville doesn't get the "R" or the "E" part of RICE, and thinks when I sit down with ice and an ACE, it's a good time to go outside and wander around the yard.
But I mostly ran all 5 miles yesterday, and it felt okay, less like I was dragging a dead tree behind me instead of my right leg, and then I had all this energy, which I used to get lots of stuff done, including cutting off most of Buster's hair, as he was terribly matted. He's going to be 17 in May, and then we only have 6 years left until we match the record of the longest-living domestic chinchilla in American history.
And that's why I like to run, the energy.
"It's where the laws of physics have no meaning." Hee.
I have a grand total of 3000 words of my Big Bang written. I'm not stuck, I'm just mentally lazy, I think. I know what I'm going to write, I just keep thinking TOMORROW would be a good day to do it. I'm going to run out of tomorrows soon, I'm afraid.
Erin and her boyfriend were here for the weekend. He's adorable, and they are madly in love. And she just kept smiling, which was just so different. She brought Magil, who threw up on the bed, a chair, and on the living room rug. Erin keeps trying to get me to keep Magil, but that's not really the way to go about it. Although I've been living with puking cats my entire adult life, that's no big deal. It's Magil's habit of peeing everywhere that makes me say HELL NO.
Adam and Larry are negotiating over what kind of malaria prophylaxis would be good for visiting the only place in the entire world that harbors a multi-drug resistant strain of malaria. Adam is opting for nothing, Larry wants them to do a full course. The last time Adam went to Angkor Wat, the drugs made him sick, apparently.
And I've rambled long enough. Happy Monday.
