Holy crap it's hot. Supposed to be in the 90s all week.
We ended up having 12 people for dinner last night. Unfortunately, the sink in the kitchen got plugged up, probably with the ton of baby artichoke leaves I put in the garbage disposal. (Larry was briefly convinced that every sink, bathtub and toilet in the house was connected to the one line, but Adam managed to talk him down off that ledge. It was good to see them working together to try and fix the problem. It's not something that often happens.) So after dinner we had a bit of an assembly line out to the backyard to wash dishes in a cooler filled with soapy water and rinse them with the garden hose. The folks not washing, drying, or transporting dishes played bocci ball. Horace was here for Neville to play with, and it was really great to hear all my children laughing together.
Of course it's a holiday today, and for $140 an hour for an emergency plumber, we're using paper plates and going out for dinner, I think, and getting the pipes looked at tomorrow.
