Census meme:
1961- I was in the third grade, living in Clearwater, FL. My parents got divorced in 1962, but in 1961, the woman living next door was still my mother's best friend and my best friend's mother. By 1963, she was my stepmother, whom I have loved all my life.
1971- I was in nursing school, living in Dayton, OH. In December, I married my high school sweetheart. We lived in a cute little apartment with a cat named Berford.
1981- I was living in Dayton, working as an ICU nurse, married to Larry (in 1979), and Erin and Ashley were one year old. We had three cats, Berford, Missy and Butterscotch, and lived in a small three bedroom house.
1991- We were living in Pittsburgh, the girls were eleven and Adam was eight. I wasn't working then. We had two English mastiffs named Tank and Tootsie, two cats named Molly and Gizmo, two lovebirds named Starsky and Hutch. We moved to Pittsburgh in 1987 and bought the house we're living in now.
2001- Still in Pittsburgh, the girls were in college, Adam was a senior in high school, and I was working as an educational sign language interpreter. We still had Gizmo and Molly, and a third cat named Lucy, a ferret named Peter, a chinchilla named Buster, (both of which Ashley left us when she went off to college) and a mastiff named Zeke.
2011- Still in the 'Burgh, although Larry is moving to Columbus, OH, probably at the beginning of July. Not that we know anything for sure, yet, of course. Adam is home with us right now, and Erin and Ashley are both living in Ohio. I sometimes teach ASL at the local Community College. We have Lucy, a Yorkie name Neville, and a turtle named Fred who I still can't find.
I was in the car today and "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" came on the radio and all I could think of was Lance, Chris and Justin sitting in the back seat of a car, maybe a limo, in what I think was Orlando, arms wrapped around each others' shoulders, singing this song along with the radio. Lance looked like he was trying so hard to fit it. It made me smile really big.
There's nothing like reading an entertaining, well-written story and suddenly seeing the phrase "had went" TWICE instead of "had gone" to make me actually say "yikes" out loud.
Only 3 people out of 8 showed up for class last night. The ones who were there thought maybe it was the weather. What weather, it was RAINING? But we sat on the floor (because we're in the music room and there are no desks) and played fingerspelling Bingo and I brought a bag of Smarties to use as markers and we actually had a lot of fun. It always makes me paranoid when people don't show up. Like, am I that boring??
