My pulmonary function test yesterday was normal. This was not a big surprise. I did better after using an inhaler, but I would imagine anyone would. Anyway, a pulmonologist has to interpret it, but the computer said normal, so. The only weird thing is that my wheezing is inspiratory rather than expiratory, but I have no idea what that signifies. My appointment with the pulmonologist isn't until June and I'll have already run Cincinnati and Pittsburgh by that time, so I can only hope it's under 50 degrees and cloudy on both those days.

Larry is home and the never-ending conversation has resumed. But that's okay, he has to talk to someone about all this. It's just that he tends to repeat himself a bit. /understatement. Did you know West Penn no longer has a librarian for their medical library? WELL, DID YOU? How can one do research and get grants and publish papers without a librarian? One can't, of course, and I sympathize, but hello, YOU'RE LEAVING IN TWO MONTHS, WHO GIVES A FUCK ANYMORE?

Ahem, sorry. In other news, our health insurance premiums will be going from $1900/month to $2000/year. That would be the difference between a two-man corporation health plan and an entire university's health plan.

Adam gave his two week notice the other day, so he only has eight more days of work. Yesterday an elderly man asked Adam if he knew where his neighbor lady was, so he could ask her to help him with something. He had a couple of calls from older people who gave him the sense they couldn't take very good care of themselves. He really can't take much more of that sort of thing. (Adam childhood story sidebar: We were watching the Olympics, ladies figure skating, and he noticed that after a performance, people threw flowers out on the ice. He was very worried that not everyone would get flowers and wanted to know who was in charge of keeping extra flowers around just in case the audience didn't throw any for someone. He still worries about that kind of stuff.)

The teaching position he applied for locally is willing to look at his resume in spite of him being certified in NY and not PA. He's also talking to the guy in Toronto about going to Japan. So, he's been much more cheerful the last couple of days.

It helps that the Penguins are doing so well in the playoffs. It's only the first round and I can't imagine we'll get much further without Sidney Crosby, but it's nice to at least win a few games. I had a very interesting discussion with [livejournal.com profile] mumbles11 about why everyone outside of PGH hates Sid so much. He appears to be a fairly nice, unassuming guy, not responsible for the media hype, and well, extremely talented. Why the hate? I suppose it's the same way I hate Tom Brady - the media makes him out to be the only quarterback in the NFL with any talent. And I remember during Mario Lemiuex's playing days, when they guy was like magic every time he stepped on the ice, playing and winning Stanley Cups when his back with so bad someone else had to tie his skates for him, when he was undergoing radiation for Hodgins disease and as far as the media outside of PGH was concerned, Wayne Gretsky was the best hockey player in the world. It was highly annoying.

Everyone enjoy SPN tonight. I've seen enough clips to know that it's going to kill me to have to wait to watch it.
