The death of Osama Bin Ladin was a long time coming and a promised finally fulfilled. I feel satisfied, yet apprehensive at the same time. It feels wrong to celebrate any human death, yet how many times have I watched other people in other places in the world celebrating the terrible things that have been done to innocent people, including Americans. So, it feels right, too. So, yeah, my overall reaction is satisfaction and pride, with worry about martyrdom.
Now, on to more trivial and personal things. I got home from Ohio last night around 7. Yesterday was a very long day and I slept ten hours last night and could easily take a nap right now. We got up at 4:30, the race started at 6:30, we had lunch with Dad and John at 11, drove back to Oxford, dropped Ashley off, drove to Columbus, I got in my car and drove home to the 'Burgh.
The race was fun. It rained but it wasn't the deluge it was last year and I even saw the sun a couple of times. I had no problems during the run except that by mile 11 I was starving. Someone was handing out beer at mile 12.5, which they did last year, also. I was really looking forward to it, because that's what's got me over the finish line last year. So I grabbed a small cup of beer, chugged it, and then, whoa, had to walk the last half mile because I thought I might puke. I guess I didn't fuel enough. So hungry by the end.
Every year we say, yay, let's do the Pig! So much fun! And then while we're running we remember that the first ten miles are uphill. The last three miles of the half are downhill, but by then I'm usually worn out. Erin, too, had a pretty slow race because of that. This was my very first race, in 2007, and I've never been able to better my time from that race, no matter how hard I work and train. The girls think I need to blame the fact that I'm four years older, and I may have to accept that.
Anyway, this is not good training or maintenance, but today I'm going to eat whatever I want.
I just watched SPN 6.19. I liked it a really lot and that's about all I have the energy to say about it today. :)
I'm really looking forward to using the next month or so to revise my Big Bang. It's been coming easily, which is a nice change from the last two BBs I wrote, where I fought for every word.
