So
spn_reversebang claims opened at 3am EST. I actually set my alarm and woke up, after falling asleep at around 1am. I decided to pee first, and by the time I posted my claim, at 3:06, there were already FIVE PAGES of comments. That's pretty damn impressive. I posted my top three claims, then decided I preferred my three backup claims, but didn't change anything. That was good, because my backup choices went before my first three did. Anyway, I managed to get my second choice, but now I have no idea what to do with it. :)
Also, I have a headache from being up for an hour in the middle of the night, then sleeping until 10. At least Neville let me sleep.
Speaking of Neville, it turns out he's a secret poop-eater. Some dogs love to root around in cat litter boxes, and it had never occurred to me that he was one of them. But last night when I got home from class, there was litter-covered cat poop in my bedroom, and he had litter on his nose. I made sure he slept on Larry's pillow when we went to bed.
There is so much to read and write, and luckily I'm not going anywhere this weekend, and Larry's not coming home. (In fact, I'm not going to Columbus until the 13th, which is the day before the girls and I fly to San Francisco for the Nike Women's Marathon. It'll be nice to stay home for a while.) My SDMB posting date is Monday, and there's still a lot of work to do there. Have you ever had an idea that you loved, and then the story just wouldn't happen? Yeah. It's not pretty.
Speaking of having an idea and the story just wouldn't happen,
spn_cinema first drafts are due Oct. 15. I had 5000 words written the first time I tried this, for Same Time, Next Year, back in April. Partly I gave up because I was focused on
spn_j2_bigbang, and partly because there were issues I just couldn't iron out. So I dusted it off the other day, and I've figured out what to do with the issues, just from taking a break from it, and I think it'll be okay.
spn_meanttobe is due by Oct. 15, too. Since that's the story that's giving me the least amount of problems, I've been ignoring it. That's probably not a good idea.
In other words, I know how I'll be spending the next four days.
Next week, I'm getting my car fixed from where that nice old lady hit me in the parking lot, and that will take three days. Lois will be my chauffeur. Then she's leaving town and Horace is coming to stay. Larry's coming home on the 6th for a meeting and a long weekend. So, I definitely need to make good use of this weekend.
In TV news, I've been watching Revenge and I really like it. I may be influenced by the fact that when I'm teaching, Wednesday night after I come home from class is my favorite time of the week. One more class is over with, I don't have to think about the next one yet, and there is fun TV on my DVR. I'm no longer allowed to whine at my family about this class, since even if I teach two semesters a year, it works out to a grand total of sixteen days out of 365, which is hardly a burden. Adam told me to try mill drills - where all the students mill around the room having dialogues with each other based on a conversational skeleton that I give them - and we did that last night, and it was fun. With adults, a night class, and the fact that it's a signed language, not a written/spoken one, it's important to keep them moving. Then we played fingerspelling bingo with M&Ms, which they seemed to appreciate.
I also watched Pan Am the other night. I haven't decided whether I like it, but I might. I'm old enough to remember when flying was something elegant and special to do, when the passengers got dressed up to get on a plane, when a simple flight from Cincinnati to Tampa, which my brother and I did fairly often, having parents in both places, involved white tablecloths and real silverware. I also remember wanting to be a stewardess, but being afraid I was both too tall and not pretty enough. It was a very glamorous thing to do back then. I like the 60s esthetics and politics, too.
Parenthood is still a show I enjoy, but I wish TPTB of all shows would stop thinking that establishing relationships and then tearing them apart constitutes good drama. There are other ways to go about generating plots.
I peeked in at NCIS this week, and it seems like it stopped being awful? That would be good.
