I'm a sucker for preview clips. I almost never regret having watched them. So of course I watched the preview clip for SPN 7.07, and I realized again that it's not preview clips I should be wary of, it's where I watch them that can be...eye-rolling. I've seen a particular reaction to this particular clip that once again makes me wonder what show people are watching and what language they're watching it in. Or why they feel it's necessary to keep score.

Anyway, I'm back from Ohio/Indiana. The funeral was kind of sad, kind of sweet. There were about ten people there, and those who had actually met Rusty remembered him fondly. Here's what struck me. Everybody's family has black sheep, people whose lives don't fit with everyone else's ideas of what's the right way to go. My friend Lois's family does, her husband's family has a million of 'em. And she and Miles are so very judgmental of it all. Lois judges and criticizes and thinks of herself as morally superior. But Larry's family, his sister and her friends, no one was judgey at all. Rusty was just Rusty, and he had bad luck and made some bad choices, and it didn't matter at all. He was just a father and a brother, and while there were years of no contact, mostly because Rusty was unwilling, there was also acceptance of him for exactly who he was, and only a desire for a reconnection, and to maybe help make his life a little easier.

It was a nice thing to be around.
