My six house guests all left yesterday. It's very quiet around here, except when Lois came last night to collect the leftover food, of which there was tons.
It was a very nice shower, although Erin isn't very comfortable being the center of attention, especially positive or heartfelt attention. After the shower the bridesmaids and Nic's sister took her out to dinner. She wore the plastic bridal tiara and "I'm the Bride!" sash at the restaurant for about five minutes before she took it off, according to Ashley. However, since there's a Furries con here in Pittsburgh - 7th year in a row - Anthrocon 2012: A Midsummer Night's Dream - and the girls were sitting next to a table of unicorns, Ash said no one really noticed Erin.
(Best question of the day: one of the bridesmaids, whom I've known since they were all in the fifth grade, looked at me and said, "Do you have a tiara we can borrow?" Yes, Kristin, let me pick one from my large collection.)
Colleen joined them for dinner, which made me very happy. She's been in her apartment in Pgh for about two weeks now, and while she refuses to come to the house, at least she's up for seeing us.
Nic can't figure out why Erin and Ashley aren't more mushy about each other - he's always astounded when Ash comes to C'bus and stays with Larry and I instead of HER TWIN!! but as Ash says, we have things like food and extra towels that she's allowed to use, so.... He also said he doesn't think humor has a place in wedding toasts. Good luck to him. Erin's friend is doing a reading during the wedding that is going to start with "Wuv. Twu wuv," and go on from there. Ashley's maid of honor speech is going to start with the list of reception activities that Erin has prohibited, which include the Chicken Dance, the Electric Slide, and people clinking their glasses to make her and Nic kiss.
(She says she'll be happy to kiss him, but only when she wants to, not when the mob tells her to. We all looked at her and said, "Nice try. Yeah, no.")
But I only have a few days to be alone. The American Library Association annual meeting is in Anaheim this weekend and I'm going with Ashley togo to Disneyland keep her company. We're flying out of Dayton Friday morning, so I'm going to C'bus on Thursday to drop off Nev and see Lar, then meet her at the airport. We'll be back either Monday or Tuesday, my brain won't give up that info right this minute.
There is exactly one thing to watch on TV each night this week. Tonight it's what'll probably be about five minutes worth of chat at 7pm about the Blackhawks on the NHL Network. Tuesday is Rizzoli and Isles, which I forgot to watch last week and isn't onDemand, although I hope it's repeating before the new ep, Wednesday is the NHL Awards, and Thursday is Suits. That's it. My lawn guy, whose 16-year old son just tried out for a hockey team that recently moved from Alaska to Johnstown, PA o.O - was bemoaning no TV to watch, and told me about a show on A&E about the building of the railroads back in the day which I might look into, if I can remember what it's called.
I spent the morning reading
runedgirl's Big Bang, 143 Alice Grim Lane, which is a completely fabulous Sam/Dean that kept me mesmerized for several hours. Which meant I had to run at noon, when it was hot, but I survived, and that's what counts.
