What a lovely day yesterday. Too much hockey to keep up with, just the way it should be.
"It's a sprint, not a marathon." "In a shortened season, every game counts." "It's a 48 game season." "Groin pulls!"
Beats what we've been hearing for the past four months.
I got all teary watching the Kings raise their banner and play with the Cup one more time, and then Kaner scored the first goal of the NHL season, and then I realized NBC was a minute late switching over to the Pens/Flyers game and Lois and I were all WTF WHERE ARE THE PENS?
But then they switched, and while beating the Flyers at home was sweet, especially when Giroux got a tripping penalty right there at the end, it didn't quite make up for the way the playoffs ended last year. It was awesome to watch Flower be so. well, awesome, though. And then the Pens took a train to NYC, lol. I think the Eastern Conference has such an advantage in travel times and distances in this shortened, 48 game sprint of an interconference play only season, except for poor Winnipeg, of course.
And the Blue Jackets won! I'm trying to get interested, since I'll certainly be seeing a lot of them. Their ticket folks are having some issues, but I would imagine all the teams are having some difficulties getting everything straightened out. I'm hoping things get fixed by tomorrow, since that's opening night and all and I'm hoping to sit in our actual seats.
So, I took a couple of decades off from hockey being my obsession - I remained interested, just not obsessed- and now that I'm back, two things haven't changed. One, I'm as obsessed as I ever was, and two, Jaromir Jagr is still the best player on the ice in any given game. Four points last night for Dallas. I remember when he was an 18-year old Pen, with his mullet and his posters on every middle school girl's wall, including most of Erin and Ashley's friends. Good times.
Nev and I are off to Cbus in a little while. At least I can listen to hockey radio on the drive over and they'll be talking about actual hockey for a change. I'm staying until Wednesday, because Larry wants me to meet his little student group that comes to his house once a month for dinner and advice on Tuesday. Back to Pgh Wednesday,
kiffle arrives Friday, over to Cbus on Saturday to watch the Hawks play the Jackets, back to Pgh on Sunday, then we'll see about the Jackets game on Tuesday. I knew when I decided to do this season ticket thing that there would be a lot of driving involved. Lucky I drive a hybrid that doesn't use a lot of gas!
I'm quite looking forward to this week's SPN. I am done, done, done with Criminal Minds, however. After last week's ep, which I just watched yesterday, I'm out. I don't care enough to rant about it, although it makes me sad that a show I loved so much, or at least characters I loved so much, had to do something so stupid and infuriating.
To make up for all the hockey talk, have Lucy and Neville chilling yesterday morning - if you can find them in all the flowers on the comforter.
