So I posted two stories this week, both here and at AO3. This isn't about feedback, because I know people don't comment at AO3, it's about the difference between an older fandom and a shiny new one. I posted an almost 9000 word SPN story on Sunday, which has a grand total of 8 hits at AO3, and a 600 word Hawaii 5-0 story yesterday, which already has 175 hits. Amazing.
I've been keeping up with my
mini_nanowrimo word count of 500 words a day, but right this minute I'm not working on a long story, so it's been 500 words of Sam and Dean here, 500 words of J2 or Steve/Danny there. Kind of scattered, but it's also kind of fun. Everyday I say, hmmm, what should I write today? MTYG is coming up and Timberlake is whispering in my ear, so I should take advantage of that, I suppose.
I'm glad Christian was revealed to have been a demon all along, because as annoying as his attitude to Dean was, it didn't really make a lot of sense. Dean has been hunting all his life and is a kickass hunter. Taking a year off was not going to erode all his skills and instincts. I don't understand the Campbell contempt for him, and unless Samuel didn't think much of John back when they were all alive, there's no reason for it. And if Samuel's only been back a year, how did he hook up with the cousins anyway, and why do they all act as if they've been hunting together for years?
I listened to the radio show with episode director Guy Bee, and he kept talking about having to cut to 43 or 44 minutes, because that's what other shows come in at, and it made me wish, as I often do, that we could have that many minutes per ep, instead of 40, or even 39.
I'm really confused about the soul thing. When Dean was in Hell, his body was dead and his soul is what underwent all those torments and then remembered it all, has feelings of guilt and grief about it. (I was disappointed, btw, that he gave into temptation and took part in torturing the alpha vamp, even though it didn't seem to bother him in the least. I like to think that Dean doesn't do cold-blooded torture anymore, and certainly not in a fit of temper, which is what that seemed to be.) His soul and body were separated, but his body wasn't sentient.
Anyhoo, so then his soul and his body were reunited (and it feels so good) and that was that. But while Sam's soul and body are separated, his body is alive and still has his brain, whatever, he can think and all that. But his soul is somewhere, in the cage with Lucifer and Michael according tothe Chrysler Building Cas, or wherever Crowley stashed it, according to Crowley. (How awesome is Mark Sheppard, keeping his name out of the credits so his appearance would be a surprise?) Is his soul suffering somewhere? Is it aware, sentient like his body is, like Dean's soul was?
Also, Dean, for the love of God, or Sam, or somebody: please, just let me see on tiny little smile, at something? It sounds to me like Jensen had a cold while filming these last couple of eps, but it's made the Batman voice worse, and I just want one sentence where he's not belligerent, where he's speaking in his normal register, and where he's SMILING. AT SAM. HIS BROTHER, WHO DOESN'T HAVE HIS SOUL THROUGH NO FAULT OF HIS OWN.
Sammy saved the damn world, he paid the price for that with his soul, he's now in thrall to another demon as his reward for SAVING THE WORLD, Jesus, Dean, cut the guy a break. Quit treating him like a monster, get over yourself, and fucking SMILE.
Okay, I may be feeling kind of strongly about that.
ETA: And reading that back, it all sounds like I didn't like it, but I did! I loved it, and I'm intrigued by the story and I can't wait to see where it goes.
