I'm resisting the urge to liveblog the NHL's Free Agent Frenzy, which is actually not all that frenzied, so how boring would that be. But I do have a few thoughts.
I don't often watch TSN, and now I know why. Well, besides the fact that I don't live in Canada. They're pretty damn obnoxious, if you ask me. Less than an hour and I realize that if a guy isn't from Saskatchewan he can't possibly have any "character." They use that word a lot, and after a five minute rant about how Alex Semin doesn't have any, thereby making him a coach killer and not someone you want to have in your locker room - seriously? And also, guys with no character get "banned to the island of misfit toys, to someplace like Columbus." I'm not sorry they're switching to soccer soon. And also, Marc Crawford, the 'Hawks don't need to trade Kane in order to sign Parise. Jeez.
(Sidebar - while the Blue Jackets are obviously a mess, C'bus is a great city. Both sportscasters and fic writers should keep that in mind. Ohio's not so bad. It's not like it's *Indiana* or anything.)
Here's my favorite part of the day so far. I love Bryan Burke, although it probably helps that I'm not a Leafs fan. Anyhoo, Leafs are terrible, have't made the playoffs in eons to hear their fans tell it, Burkie to blame, worst GM in hockey, blah, blah. He's already said he won't be doing much in the way of signing free agents today, he doesn't see much there that can help the Leafs. So while everyone and their brother is breathlessly tweeting every two seconds about who's signing where, who's on the private planes from Detroit to either Suter's farm in Minnesota or Parise's agent in Toronto (answer: Mike Babcock. That wouldn't persuade me if I were Zach.) And what does Burkie tweet in the middle of all this?
Proud to be marching in the Pride Parade tomorrow with my son Patrick, Rick Mercer and LGBT ally Steve Craig.
How can you not love that?
Okay, now TSN just insulted Marty Brodeur, they're going on mute for sure.
Lots and lots of people in C'bus still don't have power. Erin and Nic don't, although Larry does. He doesn't have cable or internet, though, and he keeps texting me about how annoyed he is because he has a paper to write and research to do. Pretty sure I'm glad to be in Pgh this weekend.
