Things are going well in wedding land. The rehearsal dinner was great fun last night. It's so, so good to have Adam here. Erin's stress levels are slowly decreasing - although she texted me at 6 this morning to tell me she was wide awake. I wasn't, so I told her to "rest her eyes" for a while longer. She and Ashley stayed in the hotel's bridal suite last night, so I'm not sure why I was the one who needed to know she couldn't sleep.
Today I'm taking fruit and water and bagels over there and hanging out while Lori does everyone's hair. We can get into the venue at 4:00. The wedding starts at 6:30. Luckily, the hotels, Larry's house, and the venue are all pretty close to each other.
The favors/table assignments are small potted succulents. Erin and Nic painted tongue depressors with chalkboard paint and wrote names and table numbers on them. Erin ordered 200 plants, although we only need 140. They arrived last Sunday in a big box full of packing peanuts, but the pots had fallen over and were in a big mix of dirt, plants and peanuts. Adam has spent all week getting them re-potted and fixed up - he was thrilled to have that to do. Today he and my SIL are supposed to set them up at the venue on a table and put the name-sticks in them. That's really the only thing left to do.
My stepdad seems to have aged 5 years since I saw him in May. He fell out of bed last week - apparently he found some old Benedryl and took it because he couldn't sleep, so when he fell he was too groggy to get up. His face and eye are kind of banged up. He accused me of putting him the wrong hotel and seems a big befuddled by things. I've put my brother in charge of him for today, especially since he's now in the hotel with my brother but without the shuttle service to and from the venue. Except Jeff and Pam are driving down to Cincinnati - where Jeff and I grew up - because he hasn't been there in years and wants to check it out. So Chris is rudderless until mid-afternoon, but there's not much I can do about it. He refuses to take his phone out of his suitcase, so I can't even call him.
There are logistics still to be dealt with, goody bags to move from one hotel to the other, last minute stuff like that. I'm starting to come around to Adam's way of thinking, which is weddings should be small and simple.
And of course, since it's been 90 degrees and so dry that Larry has no grass left in his yard since April, everyone's dresses are sleeveless, chosen with the assumption that it's going to be hot. You know, outdoor wedding in August hot. So today it's overcast with a 20% chance of rain and a high of 77.
But it's going to be fabulous no matter what.
And now I have to go do all the things.
